Svetlana V. Khokhlova

Biography

  • In 1996, she graduated from the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy with a degree in General Medicine.
  • In 2002, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on "First-line chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer with taxotere and cisplatin and its pharmacoeconomic justification."
  • In 2015, she defended her doctoral thesis on "Individualization of treatment for patients with ovarian cancer."

 

Work experience

  • From 1996 to 1998, she completed her clinical residency in the Chemotherapy Department at the N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center, and from 1998 to 2001, she completed her clinical postgraduate program.
  • In 2001, she completed a course in "Pharmacoeconomics in Medicine."
  • In 2001, she joined the staff of the Chemotherapy Department at the N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center as a research fellow.
  • In 2008, she was promoted to senior research fellow in the same department, and in 2018, she was transferred to the position of leading research fellow in the Chemotherapy Department of the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
  • In November 2018, she became head of the oncology department of antitumor drug therapy at the Kulakov Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Perinatology.
  • Chairs the RUSSCO guidelines writing group for the treatment of cervical cancer and non-epithelial ovarian tumors and is a member of the guidelines writing group for the treatment of ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer.
  • Member of the Ministry of Health guidelines writing group for the treatment of gynecologic oncology diseases. She is a member of several leading scientific oncology societies, including the IGCS (International Society of Gynecologic Oncology), ASCO (International Society of Oncology), ESGO (European Society of Gynecologic Oncology), RUSSCO (Russian Society of Clinical Oncologists), and AOP (Association of Oncologists of Russia).

 

Research activities

  • The main focus of her research is testing new anticancer drugs, developing combination chemotherapy methods for malignant tumors, and studying the possibilities of preventing and treating chemotherapy-related adverse reactions.
  • Since 1996, she has been a principal investigator and co-investigator in international clinical trials studying new anticancer drugs for the treatment of breast, ovarian, cervical, lung, and gastric cancers.
  • In accordance with international GCP (good clinical practice) requirements, she participated in studies of the following cytotoxic drugs: Taxol, Taxotere, Capecitabine, Gemzar, Irinotecan, Topotecan, and Oxaliplatin; and hormonal drugs: Letrozole, Arimidex, and Faslodex. Targeted therapies: sunitinib, sorafenib, erlotinib, crizotinib, aflibercept, axitinib, cetuximab, ombrabulin, farletuzumab, abemaciclib, palbociclib, veliparib, ramucirumab, olaparib, rucaparib; immune therapies: nivolumab, ipilimumab, atezolizumab, avelumab, pembrolizumab, and others.
  • For the past 10 years, she has been working on the research area "Studying the Importance of Molecular Biological Markers and Genetic Factors in the Drug Treatment of Various Malignant Tumors."
  • Member of the editorial board of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) journal "Malignant Tumors." She has published over 80 papers, including seven monographs.
  • Actively participates in program development and presents papers at international and Russian oncology congresses. Organizes and conducts master classes on women's health issues.
  • Member of international and Russian expert councils on gynecological oncology.
