ВСLС классификация используется в настоящее время в качестве основного руководства по методическим подходам терапии больных гепатоцеллюлярным раком. Исходя из этого алгоритма, хирургический метод, единственный позволяющий добиться радикального излечения пациента, рекомендуется лишь только на ранних стадиях. Анализ данных литературы свидетельствует о необходимости пересмотра его роли и места в BCLC, особенно у больных, отнесенных к промежуточной стадии заболевания, а так же позволяет сделать вывод, что хирургическое лечение в виде резекции печени различного объема у больных гепатоцеллюлярным раком BCLCB в большинстве случаев должно рассматриваться, в качестве приоритетной основы при обсуждении и планировании этапности лечебных воздействий.,

В случае невозможности  его выполнения показана трансартериальная химиоэмболизация (ТАХЭ).
